Here we are in June and we have only seen a few days in the 90's and we really have not been very HOT! The weather has been wonderful and the rain keeps everything beautiful and green.
With summer, we have also experienced an increase in guest visiting our Visitor Center and at Liberty Jail. We served from 9:00-3:00 today at Liberty Jail and by the time we left, we, along with the Sister Missionaries, had already shared our message with 200 guest. We love having guest come to visit and feel that special spirit that we get to feel each day.
On our P-Days these past few weeks, we have done a variety of things. On the rainy days, (and there have been a few), we planned visiting indoor place which we have really enjoyed.
One place we visited was Bird's Botanicals, an orchid nursery, owned and operated by David Bird. His orchid nursery is located in an old limestone quarry, an underground cave where he grows thousands of extraordinary orchids. (This picture is the Front Door of his business in this cave.)
He has made a year-round, nearly perfect growing environment using sodium lights, a ventilation system, water supply line and an electrical transformer.
Bird's orchid business occupies about 10,000 square feet which includes two large growing rooms absolutely filled with a wide variety of beautiful orchids and other plants, all growing in this cave. They feature over one hundred species and over two hundred varieties of orchids.
David Bird mentioned that "One out of seven flowers on Earth is an orchid. These are just a few of the pictures I took of his beautiful orchids.
June in over and I did not finish this blog in June and still do not have time to add more so I am sending this blog off and will, hopefully, find more time in the near future to tell of more of our adventures and Mission. I will say, we are enjoying every minute we are serving.
June and into July is really, really busy with bus tours almost every day, and some time 4 or 5 tours within a day. We served at Liberty Jail yesterday and we had 450 people come through our Jail by 3:00 pm. Days like that we come home tired and can't get much accomplished! The couple serving after us said they finished the day with over 600 people that came through the jail. Summers are wonderful in welcoming in youth, adults, and families on these tour busses that we are receiving!
