OUR MISSION CALL

JULY 12, 2012

Today we received our Mission Call: “You are hereby called to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You are assigned to labor in the Missouri Independence Mission.  Your primary assignment is to labor at the Independence Visitors’ Center as a visitor’s center missionary.  It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months.

We are really excited to serve in an Early Church History Site such as Independence, Missouri that also includes the Historic Liberty Jail.  We are looking forward to serve.

We are to report to the Missionary Training Center (MTC) on Monday, July 30, 2012.  That is only 2 ½ weeks away!  We didn’t know if we could make it that soon but the Lord sent us blessings so that we could meet that date.

This is our first blessing that we received:

We have a home we rent out to a couple that have been in the home almost 3 year.  They have had some financial problems and many months could not make their rent on time.  Bob has been very patient with them but knowing we had applied to go on a mission, we needed them to meet what a management company would expect of them (full rent the first of the month, utilities in their name, mow their own lawn, etc.) because Bob would not be around to help them out.  He presented this to them the first of July and they would see what they could do.

On the morning of July 12th, Bob was out mowing the lawn for them and they told him they did not think they could meet their responsibilities and they decided they would move out by July 31st.  We felt that was a blessing so that we could get someone else in the home a little more stable.  Once we opened our mission call and saw the date to report to the MTC, we did not know how that would work for us since we would not be here to check them out and get someone new in on the 31st.

We decided to come up with a few different things that might work out for us.  The day after the calling we call the mission brethren and asked if it would be possible to report a week later.  They said they would check into it and give us a call back later that day.  We then put an ad in Craig's List to rent the house.  We also called our renters to see if they might move out earlier than the 31st.

The call came back from the brethren and they explained that Visitor Center Missionaries all come on the last Monday of every month for special training so we could not put it off for a week and other complications if we switch times.  We told them we would be there on our appointed time of Monday, July 30th

Now the Lord started to bless us.  We receive a least 20 calls of people wanting to rent our house.  By Sat., July 14th we felt good about one family and they wanted to see the inside of the house.  Bob called the present renters to see if we could show the house the next day.  She said yes, but it will probably be a mess because they were trying to move out by the 16th.   They did move out on the 18th and the new family moved in on the 20th.  This house was no longer the problem to hold us back from being at the MTC on July 30th.  WE HAVE TRULY BEEN BLESSED!
